Holding Everything Back
A dazzling cloud of starlings,
taking flight through the skies:
drawing together to the thinnest of waists,
then wildly, joyously, twisting in pulses of enlargement and diminution.
Sweeping through the air,
they fall into cascading emerald tides,
suspended in the breeze, before gently rising,
Together, like a dazzling cloud of starlings, we too paint the sky...
inviting others, with open hands and open arms,
open minds and open hearts,
to join with us in the creation of this ever growing and beautiful masterpiece the masterpiece that is above us,
and before us,
beside us, and all around us.
We paint the sky with the brush strokes of love,
With generosity of self,
We paint a new picture for the world to behold.
A picture that displays the love and hope of the kingdom of God here and now.
What if we committed ourselves to this vision of Jesus and his church: a church of generosity, a church that paints beautiful masterpieces through the overflow of the people we are together? What if we stood with open hands to do something real and tangible in this world, if we stood together to make a mark, and make a difference? What if we, together, painted the sky?
What if we painted the sky?
