Prayer Experience

Gathering Prayer | ALL

God, we gather in your presence.

Father, we long for more of you.

Jesus, we place you at the center.

Holy Spirit, come and fill our time together.

Help us to be fully present here, to your word, to one another, and to the world you love. Amen.

Scripture Reading | Matthew 6:9-13 | Aaron

Jesus taught us to pray saying, ‘This, then, is how you should pray:’

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts,

as we also have forgiven our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from the evil one.

Breathe; Breathe; Breathe

Is there a word or a phrase that resonates for you today in this moment?

A thought that sticks to you, that rushes at you with a fierce love?

An idea that clutches you and heeds you to pay attention to it?

What is it?

Say that word, that phrase, that idea out loud.

Lord’s Prayer Redux by Dallas Willard | Tracy

Dear Father, always near us,

may your name be treasured and loved,

may your rule be completed in us-

may your will be done here on earth in just the way it is done in heaven.

Give us today the things we need today,

and forgive us our sins and impositions on you

as we are forgiving all who in any way offend us.

Please don’t put us through trials,

but deliver us from everything bad.

Because you are the one in charge,

and you have all the power, and the glory too is all yours-forever-

which is just the way we want it!

Breathe; Breathe; Breathe

Intercessory Prayer | Aaron

Make your ways known upon earth, Lord God, your saving power among all peoples. Renew your Church in holiness and help us to serve you with joy. Guide the leaders of all nations that justice may prevail throughout the world. Let not the needy be forgotten, nor the hope of the poor be taken away. Make us instruments of your peace and let your glory be over all the earth. Amen.

Take some time to pray for yourself and others. Let the Spirit lead you and guide you as you pray.

Prayer of Confession | Trevor

LEAD: Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep, we have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts, we have offended against your holy laws, we have left undone those things which we ought to have done, and we have done those things which we ought not to have done.

ALL: But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, spare those who confess their faults, restore those who are repentant, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord; and grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of your holy Name. Amen.

LEAD: May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins,  through Jesus Christ our Lord, and strengthen us to live in the power of the Holy Spirit, all our days. Amen.

Meditation Practice | Trevor

What is God saying to you today, right now, here in this moment and in this space?

What is God saying to you right now?

Take a moment to reflect upon the words of the Lord’s Prayer.

Our Father, who art in heaven hallowed be your name

Your Kingdom come, your will be done

on earth as it is in heaven

Give us what we need

And forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

What is God saying to you right now?

What are you going to do with what God is saying to you today?

Share what you’re hearing as you are comfortable.

Closing Prayer | Jen

LEAD: O God, you have taught us to keep all your commandments by loving you and our neighbor:

ALL: Grant us the grace of your Holy Spirit, that we may be devoted to you with our whole heart, and united to one another with pure affection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Benediction | Lydia

May God bless you with discomfort at easy answers, hard hearts, half-truths, and superficial relationships so that you may seek truth boldly and live from deep within your heart where God’s Spirit dwells.

May God bless you with anger: at injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people, so that we may work for justice, freedom, and peace.

May God bless you with tears to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation, and war, so that we may reach out our hand in comfort and turn their pain into joy.

May God bless you with foolishness to believe that through Jesus Christ we’ll have the strength and power necessary to create change in this world and in our neighborhood, so that together we will courageously try what others claim cannot be done.

May God bless you with remembrance that we are called to continue God’s redemptive work of love and healing in God’s place, in and through God’s name, in God’s Spirit, continually creating and breathing new life and grace into everything and everyone we touch. Amen.
