Call of Invocation | Trevor

Almighty God of healing, on this day you opened the way of eternal life to every race and nation by the promised gift of your Holy Spirit: Shed abroad this gift throughout the world by the preaching of the Gospel, that it may reach to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Spirit of Truth | Tracy

By Dave Hopwood

When the Spirit of Truth comes he will show you the way.

He will help you:

to live,

to persevere,

to endure,

to hope,

to help,

to strengthen others, to listen,

to learn,

to grow,

to care.

He will take you by the hand

and guide you into all the truth there is.

He will honour the Son of Man

and deliver his truth into your hands and hearts.

Psalm 104:24-35 | Trevor

O LORD, how manifold are your works! In wisdom have you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. Here is the sea, great and wide, which teems with creatures innumerable, living things both small and great. There go the ships, and Leviathan, which you formed to play in it. These all look to you, to give them their food in due season. When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are filled with good things. When you hide your face, they are dismayed; when you take away their breath, they die and return to their dust. When you send forth your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground. May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD rejoice in his works, who looks on the earth and it trembles, who touches the mountains and they smoke! I will sing to the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have being. May my meditation be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the LORD. Let sinners be consumed from the earth, and let the wicked be no more! Bless the LORD, O my soul! Praise the LORD!

Call and Response Reading | Trevor

By Sam Hargreaves

OFFICIANT: You lead us through the wilderness and give us grace for trials and tests. Your Holy Spirit shows the way and in our weakness teaches us to pray.

PEOPLE: We'll worship in the wilderness, a dry and thirsty land. We won't survive by bread alone but by your Word, and guided by your hand.

OFFICIANT: As Jesus fasted forty days, so help us turn from selfish ways, to trust in you, and learn to give for when we die to self we'll truly live.

PEOPLE: You join us in our brokenness, and comfort us in our distress, For you're the hope of all who mourn you lead us to your resurrection dawn.

PEOPLE: We'll worship in the wilderness, and trust the path you've planned. You're faithful in the wilderness, and by your grace we'll reach the promised land. Amen.

Benediction | Trevor

May God bless you with discomfort at easy answers, hard hearts, half-truths, and superficial relationships so that you may seek truth boldly and live from deep within your heart where God’s Spirit dwells.

May God bless you with anger: at injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people, so that we may work for justice, freedom, and peace.

May God bless you with tears to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation, and war, so that we may reach out our hand in comfort and turn their pain into joy.

May God bless you with enough foolishness to believe thatthrough Jesus Christ we’ll have the strength and power necessary to create change in this world and in our neighborhood, so that together we will courageously try what others claim cannot be done.

May God bless you with remembrancethat we are called to continue God’s redemptive work of love and healing in God’s place, in and through God’s name, in God’s Spirit, continually creating and breathing new life and grace into everything and everyone we touch. Amen
